Expanding Oakland County Services for Military Vets – The Oakland Press

Oakland County Veterans Services representatives will be on site at Michigan Works! centers in Novi, Southfield and Oak Park one day a week.

They will provide veterans and their family members with convenient access to a wide range of services.

County MichiganWorks! will host Veterans Benefits Counselors in Novi and Southfield on Tuesdays and in Oak Park on Thursdays.

The goal, according to County Executive Dave Coulter, is to bring services closer to where veterans live. This, he said, means that “residents who have served their country will not only be able to get help accessing their benefits, but also help with their careers.”

Services include helping veterans and their family members complete and submit applications for federal, state, and county veterans benefits. These benefits include military and civilian disability compensation; resources for health, transportation, job search and education. Financial support includes help with home loans, life insurance, burial benefits, and other untapped relief or compensation.

Garth Wootten, director of the county’s Veterans Services Division, said these services are available to veterans of all ages and life stages because part of the mission is to “advocate on their behalf.” to ensure that they receive the benefits they have earned”. .”
