Daniel Kerins is a Vietnam War veteran who served on the USS Conquest, a minesweeper, and in the field in Danang as a combat resourceful quartermaster. He served on many ships during his long career, including USS Hepburn, USS Coontz, USS Conserver, and USS Tawakoni. He later found himself assigned to recruiting duties in Cleveland, Ohio, and was so skilled that the Navy capitalized on his abilities. Kerins served as director of Navy recruiting at the Military Entry Processing Station in Shreveport, Louisiana, from 1992 to 1995. It was a position traditionally reserved for commissioned officers. Kerins is married to Kay, the love of his life, and they have resided in Palm Coast since his retirement from the Navy in 1996. He has been a Veterans of Foreign Wars and continuous member of the American Legion for 43 years. Among his many military awards and decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with V device for bravery, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze stars, the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and even a Army Commendation Medal.
