A local veterans organization, as well as an animal rescue society, received donations courtesy of a Palmerton organization.
Members of Crusaders for a Cause on Thursday presented two separate $500 donations raised at its 16th annual spring carnival held in May in the borough park.
Carnival proceeds benefit local charities, which in this case were the Palmerton United Veterans Organization and the Blue Mountain Animal Rescue Society.
George Duell, Member, Palmerton American Legion Post 269, said the group is grateful to Crusaders for a Cause for their generous donation.
Duell said “this is just another example of the community supporting veterans,” and added that it’s a show of “strong community support.”
Joe Uhnak, first vice commander, Palmerton American Legion Post 269, said the donation will be used to eventually replace the 20-by-30-foot flag located at the borough’s entrance.
Uhnak said the flag “is wearing out.”
“We have to have a flag ready for that,” Uhnak said. “It not only takes a lot of money to buy it; (but) it also takes time to get it.
Christina Obrecht, president of Crusaders for a Cause, said the group was more than deserving.
“No good deed goes unnoticed,” Obrecht said. “We appreciate all the work veterans do.
Donna Becker-Crum, president of the Blue Mountain Animal Rescue Society, said the funds will go to her dog wheelchair program and food pantry.
“Demand is high, funds are low,” Crum said.
“We appreciate what they (Crusaders for a Cause) are doing and helping us.”
Obrecht said the Crusaders were happy to help the organization.
“We appreciate their work,” she said. “They can certainly use the additional funding, and we appreciate all of their support.”
