To facilitate proper social distancing during the meal, attendees will also be able to take advantage of outdoor seating in the Doc Bryan Courtyard.

“We know that our military-affiliated students appreciate and need the company of their military colleagues,” said Kevin Solomon, associate dean for campus life at Arkansas Tech. “Their unique experiences bond them for life. This camaraderie creates an unbreakable support system. Being in each other’s company is often essential, especially when members of the military community express that they face difficult circumstances. We We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity through the ATU Veterans Services Office.”

Five local businesses — George’s Termite and Pest Control, Off Road Tire, AffordaBull Heat and Air, Hodges Towing and Recovery and River Valley Realty — have come forward to sponsor the luncheons.

Additionally, Marine Corps League of Russellville will be providing non-alcoholic beverages in the lounge throughout the week of August 23-27.

“When the Student Veterans Lounge was envisioned, it was designed to be a place where veterans, affiliated military personnel and their dependents could come together and enjoy the camaraderie,” said Shelly Hall, coordinator ATU Veterans Services. “As we begin a new semester with more students on campus and learning in person, now is a good time to facilitate this fellowship by creating this time and opportunity. We are grateful to the sponsors who make this possible for our students.”
