PHOENIX – A Phoenix– A local veteran was the victim of a burglary last weekend when someone ransacked his apartment and stole several things that are very important to him.
Carlos Lopez returned home in a shocking mess in the early morning hours of July 24, after thieves entered the back door of his apartment, located near Grand Avenue.
“As soon as I arrived I realized that everything I had worked for for the past 15 years was missing,” Lopez said.
The thieves stole some things that can’t be replaced, like Lopez’s military uniforms from his time in the Air Force.
“A bunch of my Air Force dress blues, and my basic training gym bag, and my old [Airman Battle Uniform]”Lopez said. “It’s just a part of my life that I cherish.”
The thieves also took the shoes that Lopez’s 6-year-old daughter wore as a baby, as well as her DJ equipment, computers and guitar. These are things Lopez uses to make a living.
“I mean, it was a major violation, too, it feels weirdly personal,” Lopez said.
Lopez said Phoenix police officers suggested she search nearby pawn shops for more unique items that had been stolen. Since Lopez did not have renter’s insurance, he is turn to GoFundMe hoping to replace his gear and guitar.
Replacing a sense of home security, however, will be more difficult.
“If anyone can help me get my life and my daughter’s life back on track,” Lopez said.
