Veterans Services Resource BBQ Planned in Salem | News, Sports, Jobs

A number of veterans’ organizations and service agencies have teamed up to provide a free afternoon of learning and a meal for area veterans. “Connecting those who have served” The Resource BBQ will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Salem Amvets Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave., Salem.

Representatives from the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System and the Columbiana County Veterans Service Commission will deliver presentations throughout the event:

– Devin Wilgus, Veterans Affairs – External Affairs Communications and Outreach Coordinator, will discuss VA healthcare enrollment. It will inform veterans of the qualifications needed to be eligible for VA health care.

— Sung Do, Veterans Affairs – Suicide Prevention Coordinator, will present VA SAVE training and other information related to suicide prevention.

– A representative from Veterans Affairs – Veterans Community Partners/Global Health will present on the Veterans Community Partnership Initiative, as well as Global Health programming at the VA.

— Alex Amstutz, Veterans Affairs – Peer Support Specialist, will introduce his role and provide a brief description of the Peer Specialists. He will share a brief lived experience to include eligibility, CPS, and other services he received as part of VHA care. He will continue with a discussion of peer services offered within Cleveland VAMC as well as local VHAs, and how these services can benefit/offer assistance to the veteran receiving care, and how they work with interdisciplinary teams.

– Jaqulin Simcox, Veterans Affairs – Facility Manager of the VA East Liverpool Clinic, will provide information on the services offered at the East Liverpool Clinic (primary care, specialist services, mental health, types of visits), medical benefits for veterans, overview of priority groups, revised patient registration process and changes on the horizon.

— Kevan Wain of the Columbiana County Veterans Service Commission will speak about the services offered by the county organization.

Local organizations will be on hand to share information at the resource tables. Lunch will be provided by MJB BBQ.
